Day 1 Ho Chi Minh City
Welcome to Vietnam. Relax for the next two nights at your elegant Special Stay hotel in Ho Chi Minh City. Please book flights to arrive prior to 4pm. (Dinner)
Day 2 Ho Chi Minh City:
Travel along the Saigon River to the Cu Chi Tunnels and learn about the underground labyrinth of war-time passageways. After lunch, stop for some bargaining at Ben Thanh Market.
Freechoice Dining: Enjoy a Vespa foodie tour of Saigon by night or enjoy a meal in the surroundings of an old French colonial house. Alternatively dine at Restaurant Nineteen or Square One. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Day 3 Ho Chi Minh City > Mekong Cruise
Discover Vietnam’s modern history through a visit to the Reunification Palace and War Museum. Travel by coach to My Tho to board the luxurious Scenic Spirit. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Day 4 Cai Be > Sa Dec
Freechoice: Board a sampan to visit the famous Cai Be floating market before stopping at local cottage industries and French colonial or traditional Vietnamese houses. Alternatively relish a later start before savouring morning tea at the French colonial Le Longanier House featuring local musicians and cultural demonstrations. Or stay on board for your special Freechoice activity.
Later immerse yourself in the historic town of Sa Dec. From your sampan disembark, explore and interact with the sellers in the lively market and visit the home of Mr Huynh Thuy Le who inspired Marguerite Duras’ novel L’Amant. Spend the remainder of the afternoon cruising to Tan Chau. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Day 5 Tan Chau
Freechoice: Stay in Tan Chau to visit Evergreen Island and enjoy a ride in a Xe Loi to the local Cao Dai Temple. Alternatively choose from two options which cruise by speedboat to Chau Doc. Firstly visit a family-operated fish farm before walking through a Cham village or visit Tra Su Bird Sanctuary.
Tonight is your themed evening dinner to say farewell to Vietnam. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Day 6 Tan Chau > Phnom Penh
Relax during a full day of cruising as you cross the border into Cambodia. Make use of the ship’s luxury and take the time to enjoy a cocktail by the pool or appreciate some solitude on your private balcony as you watch the scenery pass you by before berthing in Phnom Penh.
Arrive in style by tuk tuk and immerse yourself in the historically celebrated luxury of Raffles, Hotel Le Royal. Enjoy a guided history tour followed by an indulgent high tea prepared in front of you by the hotel’s chefs, all whilst sipping on your signature cocktail named in honour of Jacqueline Kennedy. Retire to the Elephant Bar before returning to the ship. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Day 7 Phnom Penh
Freechoice: Journey to the Killing Fields and tour Tuol Sleng, the former school that was converted to the main prison of the Khmer Rouge, or take a guided tour of the local food market before joining a hands on Khmer cooking demonstration. Alternatively, by Tuk Tuk explore Phnom Penh’s colonial buildings, the Central Market as well as its modern architecture before stopping for lunch at a local NGO restaurant which teaches street kids hospitality skills.
Later this afternoon visit the National Museum and the Royal Palace with the famous Silver Pagoda within. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Day 8 Oudong > Kampong Tralach > Kho Chen
After a short cruise from Phnom Penh to Kampong Tralach, experience an ox cart ride from the ship through a local village and fields to Wat Kampong Tralach. Board your coach to the ancient capital of Oudong to visit the impressive pagoda and monastery to observe the lifestyle of the resident monks and nuns.
Receive a blessing in the pagoda from a monk and learn how to pray in a Buddhist pagoda before giving a donation which contributes to the daily meal of the resident nuns and monks.
Drive a short distance to Prek K’dam to re-board Scenic Spirit. Later sail downstream to wander through the silversmith village of Kho Chen before continuing your cruise to Kampong Cham. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Day 9 Wat Hanchey > Kampong Cham
Awake as you approach Wat Hanchey, an ancient hilltop pagoda and monastery to meet the resident novice monks. Walk to the top and soak in some of the best elevated views of the cruise before sailing downstream to Kampong Cham.
Freechoice: Learn about the history of the area with a visit to Phnom Pros (Man Hill) and then Wat Nokor, an 11th century temple that has a modern pagoda built within. Alternatively explore the ecotourism village of Cheung Kok or spend your time wandering through the township of Kampong Cham. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Day 10 Mekong Cruise > Siem Reap
Drive to Siem Reap and check in at your hotel, your stylish three night Special Stay.
Take your premium seat at the colourful Cambodian Circus, Phare. (Breakfast, Lunch)
Day 11 Siem Reap
Visit to the colossal Angkor Wat, before stopping at Angkor Thom and the multi-faced Bayon Temple. Later visit the atmospheric Ta Prohm Temple as seen in the film Tomb Raider. (Breakfast, Lunch)
Day 12 Siem Reap
Marvel at sunrise over the magnificent Angkor Wat before moving to a special location for a champagne breakfast with food prepared by a local NGO supported bakery school.
Freechoice: Discover Banteay Srei and visit the Landmine Museum or explore Beng Mealea temples and Artisans D’Angkor. Alternatively, cruise on Tonle Sap or take a tethered balloon ride over Angkor Wat before visiting a Pouk Silk Farm and Preah Khan Temple. For the more adventurous enjoy a vintage Vespa ride.
Tonight be wowed by a magical themed gala dinner at an Angkor temple, with included drinks and a show featuring Apsara dancers in front of candle lit temple ruins. A truly memorable end to your journey. (Breakfast, Dinner)
Day 13 Siem Reap > Champasak
Fly to Pakse and discover this quaint city before travelling to the small town of Champasak and your boutique hotel for the next two nights. (Breakfast, Dinner)
Day 14 Champasak
Visit Wat Phou, a spectacular World Heritage-listed Khmer temple complex.
Freechoice: Visit a local coffee plantation. Alternatively, explore the neighbouring villages by bicycle, or enjoy a traditional Lao or Thai massage. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Day 15 Champasak > Luang Prabang
Fly to Luang Prabang, the spiritual capital of Laos, for a three night stay at your colonial-style hotel. (Breakfast, Dinner)
Day 16 Luang Prabang
Partake in morning alms by donating food to the local monks. Later, visit the former Royal Palace, Wat Xieng Thong and Wat Mai before cruising to the mysterious Pak Ou caves to see hundreds of centuries-old sacred Buddha images. (Breakfast, Lunch)
Day 17 Luang Prabang
Freechoice: Journey to the serene Kuang Si Waterfalls or discover different methods of weaving and dyeing textiles. Alternatively set off on a bike ride to discover why Luang Prabang has become a haven for artists.
Immerse yourself in local spirituality during a traditional Baci ceremony and pay respects to ancient animist traditions. (Breakfast, Dinner)
Day 18 Luang Prabang
Say farewell to Laos with many wonderful memories of the people and places you have visited during your Indochina adventure. (Breakfast)
